Flowers
I don't have anything against flowers. After such a sentence Foxe would give me this look of hers, telling me that she can't really stand them. Well it is ok, there are different positions and it doesn't really matter. During the first months of this year I had some difficulties with taking pictures, so I was looking for inspiration around the net. Browsing photographers and photography every day, just to find something interesting that will let me move on. Like everything in photography there is fashion - process, subject, composition - it can be everything. Unfortunately in my struggle the fashion was (and it still is) collodion process. A beautiful process indeed, but honestly, nowadays, it is mainly used by people lacking imagination. So every third picture I see is a collodion portrait of a woman stuck in a bush of flowers (or leaves), next to a vase of flowers, keeping a bouquet of flowers, flowers in her feet, flowers on her head, naked on the ground with flowers spread around, flowers, flowers, flowers.... Well it makes me sick and as I see I am not the only one who feels the same. I like flowers and I often take pictures of flowers too, may be they are better or worse or just the same as the collodion flowers pictures, I really don't know, but after I have seen a trillion wet plate " flower and a girl" photos it really makes me loose faith in the photography world. And just to say it again - i don't see anything wrong with the flowers, but i feel there is something wrong with sticking them in every single picture. I don't want to insult anybody, although it is obvious that I just did, because I have all this Internet contacts ("friends" as some like to point?) who are using the same process, experiment and enjoy it. And this is perfectly understandable, but I personally from now on refuse to watch blogs, websites, groups and whatever dedicated to the wet plate, because I believe that photography goes beyond the process, speaks beyond the process and in general is something more than a process itself.
